Our Story

In 1847 the Anglican community in Port Dover was gifted land for the building of a church. Four years later with donations coming from as far away as the United States and England, St. Paul’s opened its doors to the faithful who had previously been gathering to worship in stores and homes.

St. Paul’s steeple became and remains to this day, a beacon of hope for returning fishermen. Over the years, St. Paul’s has withstood two fires. The most recent, in 1965, resulted in extensive damage to the chancel area, destroying both the organ and the stained glass window over the altar. Two years later, with renovations completed, the church re-opened, displaying a new pipe organ and a new stained glass window.

In 2021, St. Paul’s was honoured to receive and dedicate, The Fishermen, a new stain glass window, prominently positioned above the main entrance.

An orderly row of wooden pews inside a traditional Anglican church, their medium-oak surfaces softly worn from years of use, each with neatly stacked hymn books and prayer books in dark blue and burgundy cloth covers. The center aisle is carpeted in a deep, understated red leading toward a distant, slightly blurred chancel. Overhead, white plaster walls meet simple wooden beams. Natural afternoon light streams in from tall, clear-glass windows along one side, creating rhythmic bands of brightness and shadow across the pews. Photographed from a low angle looking down the aisle, the image conveys a peaceful, contemplative mood, with photographic realism and strong linear perspective drawing the eye toward the sanctuary, suggesting order, tradition, and quiet welcome.

Who We Are In Christ

For over a century, St. Paul’s has gathered Port Dover neighbours to worship, learn, and serve as part of the Anglican Church of Canada, sharing Christ’s love through prayer, hospitality, and community outreach.

Our Leaders

A close-up, photographic realistic view of a polished wooden altar inside an Anglican sanctuary, covered with an elegant white linen frontal trimmed with subtle gold embroidery. At the center, a gleaming brass cross stands between two unlit beeswax candles in simple brass holders, with a closed dark red Book of Common Prayer resting reverently in front. The background shows a softly blurred carved wooden reredos and a glimpse of stained glass in muted jewel tones. Soft, diffused daylight filters from side windows, casting gentle highlights on the brass and wood. The mood is reverent, calm, and professional, with an eye-level composition and shallow depth of field that focuses attention on the altar elements while keeping the surrounding space quietly present.

Our rector offers compassionate, thoughtful leadership rooted in prayer.

A serene photographic scene of the churchyard at St. Paul’s Anglican Church Port Dover, focusing on a simple stone memorial cross with clean, well-kept engravings. The cross stands among trimmed grass and a few mature trees, whose leaves create dappled patterns of light and shadow on the ground. In the mid-distance, a partial view of the church’s red-brick exterior and arched windows lends context without dominating the frame. Captured in soft, late-afternoon light under a slightly overcast sky, the colors are gentle and natural, enhancing a mood of peace, remembrance, and hope. The composition uses shallow depth of field, with the memorial cross crisply in focus and the church subtly blurred, reinforcing the contemplative, respectful tone in a realistic, professional style.

People’s Warden welcomes all and supports parish life with quiet dedication.

A photographic close-up of an open Anglican prayer book resting on a smooth, medium-toned wooden lectern, its pages gently curved with a ribbon marker in deep red silk lying across well-worn text. The print is sharp and readable but not the main focus; instead, the emphasis is on the textures of the aged paper and the warm wood grain. Behind the lectern, a softly out-of-focus stained glass window in cool blues and warm ambers diffuses soft, colored light into the space. The lighting is gentle and even, suggesting a quiet morning service preparation. Shot at eye level with a moderate depth of field, the mood is reflective and studious, aligning with a professional, reverent church environment.

Rector’s Warden helps guide decisions, linking parish members and clergy.

A dignified red-brick Anglican church identified as St. Paul’s in Port Dover, with a steep gray slate roof and a simple white wooden cross mounted at the peak. The building sits on a neatly kept lawn with low evergreen shrubs and a small stone sign bearing the church’s name. It is photographed at golden hour from a slightly elevated angle across the quiet street, with warm sunlight grazing the brickwork and long, soft shadows stretching over the grass. The sky is a calm pale blue with a hint of clouds, creating a serene, welcoming atmosphere. Photographic realism with sharp detail throughout, composed using the rule of thirds to emphasize the church façade and entrance steps.

A detailed photographic image of a church communication table set up in a bright, uncluttered parish hall at St. Paul’s Anglican Church Port Dover. On a light wood table lies a neatly arranged selection of printed Sunday bulletins, a small stack of community outreach flyers, and a simple navy-blue folder labeled “Welcome to St. Paul’s” in clean white lettering. A small wooden cross and a modest potted green plant add warmth. Soft overcast daylight filters through large windows, producing even, shadow-minimized lighting. The background shows softly blurred neutral-colored walls and a notice board with indistinct papers. Shot from a slightly elevated angle with sharp focus on the printed materials, the atmosphere feels professional, organized, and inviting, emphasizing clear communication and hospitality.
